Troop 140
Home About Us Contact Us The Biggest & the Best
Troop 140, located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois is one of the largest and most active troops in the Northwoods District in Northwest Suburban Council. Our troop is comprised of scouts that come from all over Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Long Grove, Kildeer and Wheeling as well as other local communities in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. We are sponsored by St. Mary Church of Buffalo Grove, and have more than 100 registered scouts and about 70 registered adults.
We are a high adventure troop...That means that we look for new and exciting activities like rock climbing at Devils Lake or at Upper Limits, rafting the Peshtigo and Wolf River's whitewater rapids, or hiking along the backpacking trails in Kettle Moraine State Park and caving  at Illinois Caverns or Maquoketa Caves just to mention a few. These are the kinds of outings we go on every month during the school year.

During the summer break, we offer many different opportunities with varying skill and experience levels required. Over the past few years, we have sent treks to Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Wyoming, South Dakota, the Pacific Northwest, The Canadian/US boundary waters, Yosemite, Mount Ranier  and Alaska and we have even more adventures planned for the next five years!! This past summer, we had treks to Iceland, Sailing in the Florida Keys, Boundary Waters and Philmont besides our standard Camp Alexander in Colorado and Camp Napawon for our first year scouts.

If these activities sound interesting to you, then Troop 140 is the place for you. No other troop offers the type or diversity of activities and outings like we do. Come join the adventure!
Our goal is to have fun and become men of character.

We Have:

  • climbed 14,000 foot mountain peaks and survey the world below!
  • snorkeled with sharks, barracuda and moray eels in the Florida Keys!
  • slithered deep underground through small passages in black caves with awesome rock formations!
  • sailed with porpoises riding the bow waves!
  • slept on boat decks and in the wilderness under the skies so full of stars it seems like daylight!
  • and seen shooting stars and satelites criss crossing the sky.
  • back packed in the heat and cold, in snow and rain and in all sorts of precipitation we cannot describe!
  • gone on technical rock climbing and rappelling trips as well as routine overnighters!
  • climbed 7 mountains in 10 days traveling over 105 miles, carrying all of our supplies!
  • climbed with crampons and ice axes, as well as mountain biked, and white water rafted on the mighty Arkansas River!
  • viewed five states at once! seen wildlife and sights that few men of this generation will ever have the privilege of viewing!
Does this sound interesting to you? We have a strong, active troop, with motivated scout leaders that carry forth the heart and soul of the scouting movement.  For more than 33 years the Scouts of Troop 140 having been living an adventure seldom experienced by suburban youth.

We are a little different, and we are proud of it!
